Project coordination
What should a useful construction progress update include?
Five items that turn a status check into a next-step conversation.
By Build Coordination Group · October 8, 2026
What is complete
Describe completed work by scope or area, with relevant photos when appropriate. Distinguish work installed from work accepted or inspected.
What happens next
List upcoming activities and the conditions needed to start them. Identify trade handoffs and owner decisions that could affect the sequence.
What is blocking progress
Record the issue, responsible party, next action, and expected follow-up. Avoid promising a revised completion date before the team evaluates the impact.
What needs approval
Make changes, allowances, and unresolved selections visible. Keep written cost and scope approvals together with the current plan revision.
What remains to close out
Track punch-list work, required inspections, and agreed handover documents. A consistent update format gives owners and contractors a shared view of the project.
General guidance, not a property-specific assessment. Confirm technical and jurisdiction-specific requirements with the appropriate licensed professionals.
